Eight blind systems, from roller to outdoor PVC.
What to know.
A blind sits close to the glass and controls light with far less fabric than a curtain, so it suits kitchens, bathrooms, studies, offices and any window where a curtain would be in the way. Each system handles light differently: rollers and romans raise and lower, zebras and venetians let you band or angle the light, and honeycombs insulate.
We measure each window to decide whether the blind sits inside the recess or covers it, help you pick the system and the fabric or slat, and fit it with the controls on the side you want.

Roller
A single panel of fabric that rolls up into a slim cassette at the top of the window and leaves the glass clear. It is the simplest and neatest blind, and the fabric decides the rest: a screen that keeps the view, a light-filtering weave, or a blackout for bedrooms and media rooms.
- Light
- Sheer, light-filtering or blackout
- Operated by
- A bead chain at the side
- Best for
- Bedrooms, studies, offices and media rooms
- Upkeep
- Dust or wipe down
Roman
Fabric that lies flat when it is down and gathers into soft horizontal folds as it rises. It has the softness of a curtain in the space of a blind, and can be lined for privacy or blackout, so it suits rooms that want a tailored look.
- Light
- Light-filtering, or lined for blackout
- Operated by
- A cord at the side
- Best for
- Living rooms, bedrooms and dining rooms
- Upkeep
- Vacuum gently; most fabrics can be dry-cleaned
Zebra
Two layers of fabric in alternating sheer and solid bands, one in front of the other. Line the sheer bands up to let daylight through while you keep the view, or offset them so the solid bands overlap for privacy, all with one chain.
- Light
- Adjustable, from open to near dark
- Operated by
- A bead chain at the side
- Best for
- Living rooms, studies and offices
- Upkeep
- Dust or vacuum on low
Honeycomb
Pleated fabric formed into cells, like a honeycomb seen from the side. The air held in the cells slows heat through the glass, so the room stays cooler in summer and the air conditioning works less, and the pleats stack into a slim band when raised.
- Light
- Light-filtering or blackout
- Insulates
- Air cells slow heat through the glass
- Best for
- West-facing and air-conditioned rooms
- Upkeep
- Dust or vacuum on low
Wooden venetian
Horizontal slats of wood, held on ladder tapes, that tilt to angle the light and lift clear of the window. Warm and solid, they sit well beside a wood floor or wooden furniture, and suit dry rooms away from steam.
- Light
- Tilt the slats to angle it
- Operated by
- A tilt wand and a lift cord
- Best for
- Living rooms, studies and dens
- Upkeep
- Dust, and keep away from damp
Aluminium
Slim metal slats that tilt to angle the light and lift clear of the window. They stand up to steam, damp and daily wiping where fabric or wood would not, which makes them the practical choice for kitchens, bathrooms and offices.
- Light
- Tilt the slats to angle it
- Operated by
- A tilt wand and a lift cord
- Best for
- Kitchens, bathrooms and offices
- Upkeep
- Wipe with a damp cloth
Vertical
Fabric vanes hung from a track that turn to angle the light and draw aside to one or both ends. Made for wide windows, French windows and sliding doors, where a horizontal blind would be too wide and heavy to lift.
- Light
- Turn the vanes to angle it
- Operated by
- A cord and chain at the side
- Best for
- Wide windows, sliding doors and offices
- Upkeep
- Vanes unclip for cleaning
Outdoor PVC
Weather-resistant PVC sheets, clear, tinted or opaque, that close off a balcony, terrace or restaurant verandah against sun, rain and dust. They run down side channels so the wind cannot lift them, and roll up into a cassette when you want the space open.
- Light
- Clear, tinted or opaque
- Weather
- Keeps out rain, wind and dust
- Best for
- Balconies, terraces and restaurant verandahs
- Upkeep
- Hose or wipe down
