What to know.
Gym floors are EPDM rubber: dense, shock-absorbing and grippy even when wet with sweat. Rubber protects the slab beneath from dropped weights, cuts the noise and vibration that travel to the rooms below, and gives a steady, cushioned footing for training.
The thickness follows the training. Rolls of 5 to 15 mm suit studios and cardio areas, and tiles of 10 to 30 mm go under free weights and lifting zones. Tiles can be swapped where the wear is heaviest, and rolls give a continuous surface with few joins.

Tile
Square EPDM rubber tiles, up to 1 m by 1 m, laid edge to edge across the floor. Thicker tiles go under free weights and lifting areas, and a worn or damaged tile can be lifted out and replaced on its own.

Roll
Rubber laid from rolls across the whole floor, with few joins. It gives a smooth, continuous, cushioned surface that suits studios, cardio areas and functional training, and is quick to lay over a large room.
