What to know.
Vinyl is a soft, resilient floor: quiet and warm underfoot, water-resistant and easy to mop, which is why homes with children, schools, clinics and offices all use it. It comes in two formats. Sheet vinyl is laid from wide rolls with very few joins, and vinyl planks come in wood and stone looks that can be replaced one at a time.
Because vinyl is thin, it shows any bump in the floor beneath it. We level and prime the subfloor first, then lay the vinyl and seal the edges, so it stays flat for years.

Roll
Sheet vinyl comes off wide rolls, so a room can often be laid in one piece or with very few joins, and those joins can be welded shut. It is the most hygienic and water-resistant way to lay vinyl, and one of the quickest floors to fit.

Plank
Individual planks with a printed wood or stone design under a clear wear layer, laid in straight rows or in patterns. They look the most like a real wood floor, and a damaged plank can be lifted out and replaced on its own.
