What to know.
Wooden flooring covers every floor with the look of wood, made in different ways for different rooms. Laminate prints a wood design onto a fibreboard core under a hard-wearing surface, the most affordable choice for dry rooms. Engineered wood puts a real hardwood top layer on a stable core, and solid wood is timber all the way through, so it can be sanded and refinished many times.
SPC and CDC are the waterproof members of the family. Their rigid composite cores do not swell in water, so they suit kitchens, bathrooms and apartments where the floor is laid straight over the existing tiles. Any of them can be laid straight, in herringbone, in chevron or as parquet, and finished with matching skirting and thresholds.

Laminate
A printed wood design under a clear, hard-wearing surface, on a high-density fibreboard core. It resists scratches and fading, and is the most affordable way to a wood look.
- Core
- High-density fibreboard
- Water
- Keep dry; not for wet areas
- Best for
- Bedrooms, living rooms and offices
Engineered wood
A real hardwood top layer bonded over a cross-layered core. You see and feel real timber, while the core keeps the plank steady as heat and humidity change.
- Top
- Real hardwood
- Refinish
- Can be lightly sanded, depending on the top layer
- Best for
- Living rooms, bedrooms and hotel rooms
Solid wood
Planks cut from a single piece of timber, end to end. The warmest and longest-lived wood floor, which can be sanded and refinished many times over the years.
- Timber
- One piece, top to bottom
- Refinish
- Many times over its life
- Best for
- Living rooms, bedrooms and heritage homes
SPC
Stone plastic composite: a rigid core of limestone powder and PVC under a printed design and a wear layer. The core is waterproof and stays stable through heat and humidity.

- Waterproof
- Best for
- Kitchens, bathrooms, and apartments over an existing floor
CDC
Compact density core: a waterproof composite floor in the same family as SPC, built on a denser core. Only a few brands make it, so few showrooms carry it. We do.

4 ways to lay it.
Most of our wood floors can be laid in any of these. We show you which each range comes in.
- 01
Straight
Planks in parallel rows with staggered joints. The simplest way to lay a floor, and it draws the eye along the room.
- 02
Herringbone
Rectangular planks laid at right angles, each end butting the side of the next, in a broken zig-zag like a W.
- 03
Chevron / fishbone
Planks with their ends cut on an angle so they meet in a clean, continuous V down the room.
- 04
Parquet
Short wooden blocks set in geometric patterns, such as basket weave and squares. A classic for living and dining rooms.
