Solid Surfaces

Solid surface is an acrylic-based material, best known by the brand name Corian, with the same colour and pattern all the way through. Pieces are bonded with a colour-matched adhesive and polished, so a long counter, a moulded basin and an upstand read as one seamless piece, with no grout lines or joints for dirt to sit in.

Because it is non-porous it resists stains and is easy to keep hygienic, which is why it is used in kitchens and bathrooms as well as hospitals and labs. Light scratches can be sanded out and the surface re-polished, so it is renewed rather than replaced.
